Gear hob is a tool that cuts gears by the development method according to the meshing principle of helical gear pairs. The gear hob is equivalent to a small gear, and the cut gear is equivalent to a large gear. The gear hob is a helical gear with a large helical angle β0 and a small number of thread heads (1 to 3 teeth), a very long tooth, and can circle the hob indexing cylinder many times, so it is like a worm with a very small helical angle γz. In order to form the cutting edge, several chip grooves are milled along the axis on the end face of the worm to form the front face and the front angle; after tooth removal and relief grinding, the back face and the back angle are formed.



It is equivalent to a helical gear with a small number of teeth and a large helical angle, and its appearance is worm-shaped.
